TEC7118 - GIS Cartographic Design

 Learn how to design and create high quality maps for public presentations, scientific publications, wayside exhibits, and general brochures and documents. This course gives participants an overview of cartographic design principles and relevant mapping standards. Examples of existing government and private sector map designs are showcased for student instruction. This course includes practical, hands-on exercises with GIS software layout tools.
College Credit 1 semester hour
Who Should Attend: Professionals working on conservation and natural resource mapping projects, including field station and refuge/park personnel who use GIS, outreach specialists, outdoor recreation planners, landscape architects, and others who desire to create professional maps and graphic products.
Objectives:
* Describe the fundamental principles of cartographic design;
* Produce high-quality cartographic products; and
* Learn GIS techniques for effective cartographic design.
