The course familiarizes the participant with the Service’s responsibilities and opportunities under the Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act.  Course content focuses on the relationship of the FWCA to other legislation, the types of assistance the Service provides, standard formats for FWCA reports and methods for developing project costs, cooperative agreements and project recommendations.

College Credit:  2 semester hours

Who Should Attend:  Staff with responsibilities for evaluating water resource development projects and other Federal activities under the FWCA.

Length:  4.5 days/36 hours

Objectives:  At the end of this course, participants will be able to do the following:

  • Describe the problems that the Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act was enacted to solve;
  • Describe the basic content and purpose of FWCA reports;
  • Develop a scope of work and budget;
  • Describe the relationship of FWCA to other legislation and programs;
  • Understand the value of communication skills including relationship building and collaboration in influencing water resource development projects;
  • Prepare effective recommendations for a FWCA report through an understanding of impact assessment and mitigation.
