OUT8121 - Interest-Based Negotiation
Outreach Courses List | DEO Home
  This course helps participants to apply a “win-win,” interest-based negotiating process, resulting in favorable agreements for all parties involved. The course is an interactive mix of lecture, hands-on training, and discussion, to give participants an opportunity to practice techniques that are presented. Note:  This course is a prerequisite for OUT8122: Applying Collaboration to Environmental Issues.
College Credit  1 semester hour  
Who Should Attend: Project Leaders,  Resource managers, biologists, partners for Fish and Wildlife Service Programs, managers, supervisors, outreach specialists, state conservation partners, local community representatives, anyone (including non-agency) plus giving other natural resource professionals the opportunity to build and refine skills involving negotiation, collaboration, and partnership-building.

 

Objectives:
  • At course, participants will:
    1. Become well-versed in different types of negotiations, negotiation styles, and strategies
    2. Understand how to best communicate interests and objectives
    3. Learn to successfully analyze and assess the knowledge and interests of the other parties

    After course, participants will be prepared to:
    1. Employ the communication skills that are essential to a successful negotiation
    2. Understand and apply different strategies and tactics
    3. Reframe an issue and aim toward moving a discussion toward resolution
