  • Robert ‘Bob’ Johnsson loved nature from the smallest plant beneath a rotted log to the majesty of the stars. For thirty seven years as a National Park Service interpreter Johnsson shared his naturalist’s vision with the American public. Bob began his career as a seasonal naturalist at Isle Royale National Park. He went on to become an interpreter at Rock Creek Nature Center, Yellowstone National Park, and the Interpretive Design Center (IDC) in Harper’s Ferry National Park from 1968 until his retirement in 1994. At the IDC, Johnsson designed visitor center exhibits from Hawaiian volcanoes to the Grand Canyon to the Great Smokey Mountains. Johnsson’s passions include hiking, birding, astronomy, and botanizing. He synthesized his wide-ranging interests to help the nation appreciate its great natural places.
