  • Special Agent Joe Oliveros (1951-2001) was a dedicated law enforcement officer who truly made a difference for wildlife.  His investigative work in Louisiana deterred illegal hunting and helped waterfowl populations rebound from the drought-stricken years of the 1980s.  In Florida, he focused attention on the need to safeguard migratory bird resources and set up special enforcement training programs.  Oliveros had a hand in molding hundreds of Service special agents and refuge officers, multiplying his contributions to wildlife conservation many times over.  Wildlife resources, the millions of Americans who treasure them, and a generation of Service officers benefitted from his enthusiasm, energy, and professional expertise.
