History
FFS is the official accounting system of the Fish and Wildlife Service.
It is an off-the-shelf software product that provides financial
accounting, funds control, management accounting, and financial reporting
processes.
FFS provides data entry screens that capture only the data necessary
for that type of transaction and generates the appropriate debit/credit
entries based upon a table driven processing approach.
It meets the external financial reporting requirements of the OMB,
GAO, and the Treasury Department.
It is divided into various subsystems:
- budget execution
- accounts receivables
- purchasing
- accounts payable
- travel
- automated disbursements
- project cost
- general ledger
- external reporting
The Fish and Wildlife Service began using FFS in FY1990.
Most of the Department of the Interior uses the system.
One major complaint with the system is that the user cannot request
ad hoc queries with the system, but a future version is going to
add that capability.
