Contract type codes are used as part of the document control number to identify which type of contract it is. In a typical DCN, the first five characters are the organization code, the sixth character is the last digit of the fiscal year, the seventh character is the contract type code, the eighth through tenth characters are a user assigned number, and the eleventh character is an alpha identifier.
