Participants are provided with an overview
of core programs of Ecological Services, including: Habitat Conservation
(Federal Projects, Wetland Regulations, Mitigation Policy, Hydropower,
Private Lands, and Coastal Ecosystems), Environmental Quality, and Endangered
Species. The focus of the course is on cross-program issues, outreach,
and partnerships.
College Credit: 2 semester hours
Who Should Attend: FWS staff who have been in Ecological Services for
six months to two years, or upon recommendation of supervisor.
Length: 5 days/36 hours
Objectives: By the end of this session, the participant will be able to:
- Describe all of the programs in Ecological Services, including associated laws and policies;
- Describe how the programs within Ecological Services interrelate and fulfill our public trust responsibilities;
- Know when to seek advisement or involvement from a program expert;
- Implement a basic understanding of communication/negotiation skills and understand the value of building greater expertise in these skills;
- Describe the historical evolution of Ecological Services within the Fish and Wildlife Service.
