The Fisheries Training Committee (Committee) reviewed the “Shaping Our Future” Summary Report to identify training options that enhance implementation. In the Report, Director Dale Hall outlined the future of the Service with the following directives:

  • 1. Emphasize working cooperatively with others by expanding our use of collaborative approaches to resource conservation.
  • 2. Develop a more integrated approach to problem solving. Work together and share resources to get the job done.
  • 3. Learn new skills and competencies to adapt and lead through change.

These directives from Director Hall, and the recommendations of Workshop participants, have established ambitious goals to make the Service more effective in carrying out its mission. The Committee believes a straightforward first step towards meeting these goals can be achieved by enhancing employee ability to take advantage of job swap, detail and cross-training opportunities already available, but not broadly recognized.

The NCTC has now established a listserv to collect and announce opportunities for job swaps, details and cross training for use by Fisheries Program employees. The listserv is accessible to all Fisheries Program employees. Click on the link below to access and subscribe to the listserv:

    https://www.fws.gov/lists/listinfo/fisheriesjobswap

In addition, the NCTC has created and maintains this web site that contains all information collected from the listserv.

Employees, in consultation with their supervisors, have an opportunity to review, select and participate in a specific activity. Employees should follow side boards established by the participating offices and both the employee and her/his supervisor should ensure that participation meets pre-established IDP goals.

Any questions you might have regarding a specific job swap or job detail opportunity should be directed to the person listed as the contact.

General questions regarding this page and the Fisheries Job Swap ListServe can be directed to:
