An informational interview involves interviewing someone about different jobs/career fields. The trick is to find someone to interview who will tell you what things are really like:
- what are the good parts of doing this particular job for a living,
- what are the bad parts,
- do they really enjoy what they do, and
- what's needed to get into this field.
Sources for informational interviews vary. It could be someone who is working in that field, someone in personnel who can tell you what skills are required for that field, a supervisor who has people working for them in that field or a combination of the above.
These can be great sources of information and take very little time and resources to conduct.
