| As visitation to National Wildlife Refuges and Fish Hatcheries increases, managers are faced with the difficult challenge of protecting the resources while meeting the visitors’ needs. This course familiarizes participants with the legislation, regulations, and policies related to visitor services in the FWS. Topics include the six priority wildlife-dependent recreational uses that can occur on refuges as defined by the Refuge Improvement Act, visitor services requirements, budget, compatibility, fees, concession management, and visitor services planning and evaluation. |

| Who Should Attend: |
Anyone involved with visitor services or public use programs, including project leaders, natural resource managers, environmental educators, interpretive staff, outreach specialists, outdoor recreation planners, park rangers, and those working with community support groups. |
| Objectives: |
- Outline the history of visitor services in relation to current legislation, regulations, policies, and organizational structure of the FWS
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of FWS planning policy, including the development and implementation of Comprehensive Conservation and Visitor Services Plans
- Determine compatible uses and apply visitor use requirements to plans and programs at FWS field stations
- Explain the FWS funding and budgeting process as it relates to visitor services
