The eleven
programs of the Service work together to:
manage
migratory bird populations,
restore
interjurisdictional fisheries and administer the National Fish Hatchery
System
conserve
and restore wildlife habitat, through the National Wildlife Refuge
System and cooperative conservation efforts with landowners, other
governments and non governmental organizations,
administer
the Endangered Species Act,
assist foreign governments with their conservation efforts,
oversee
Federal Assistance in Fish and Wildlife Restoration Programs, which
distribute, through federal grants, hundreds of millions of dollars
earned from excise taxes on fishing and hunting equipment to state
fish and wildlife agencies, and
enforce
conservation laws
