Alexander Wetmore

  • Alexander Wetmore’s life was one of the quintessential ornithologist. As an assistant biologist for the U.S. Biological Survey, Wetmore studied waterfowl disease and published the federal government’s first comprehensive study of disease among waterfowl. Dr. Wetmore’s energy, determination, and vision enabled him to hold many important positions including president of the American Ornithologists’ Union and Secretary of the Smithsonian Institute.
